AMD has announced it is making the recently released (and reviewed here on Architosh) GPU the new AMD Radeon Pro W6600X GPU for the currently shipping Mac Pro.
This latest addition by AMD means that current Mac Pro tower users have more GPU options to select from for their needs, particularly a new stronger mid-level GPU based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture.
The entry-level pro GPU card option is still the AMD Radeon Pro W5500X with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Now users can select a new Radeon Pro W6600X with 8GB of GDDR6 memory with the benefits associated with the AMD RDNA 2 Architecture (see, Architosh, “AMD’s RDNA 2 Architecture—Behind the Radeon Pro W6600’s Stellar Performance,” 18 Oct 2021). For just USD 300, the W6600X provides 9.8 Peak Teraflops (FP32) compared to 5.6 Peak Teraflops (FP32) for the W5500X GPU option.
W6600X for Mac Pro
The Radeon Pro 6600X for Mac Pro includes the features of the AMD RDNA 2 Architecture, delivering stunning performance within an exceptional power envelope ideal for mid-level workstation GPU needs.
Key capabilities include high-speed GDDR6 memory at 8GB with up to 256GB/s bandwidth for data-intensive pro applications like 3D animation, simulations, or CAD workflows.
AMD Infinity Cache technology is AMD’s “integrated directly on the die” 32MB of last-level data cache, reducing latency and power consumption to enable higher performance. There is also support for 8K processing and HDR support for video professional workflows.
