AMD has announced it is making the recently released (and reviewed here on Architosh) GPU the new AMD Radeon Pro W6600X GPU for the currently shipping Mac Pro.
This latest addition by AMD means that current Mac Pro tower users have more GPU options to select from for their needs, particularly a new stronger mid-level GPU based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture.
The entry-level pro GPU card option is still the AMD Radeon Pro W5500X with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. Now users can select a new Radeon Pro W6600X with 8GB of GDDR6 memory with the benefits associated with the AMD RDNA 2 Architecture (see, Architosh, “AMD’s RDNA 2 Architecture—Behind the Radeon Pro W6600’s Stellar Performance,” 18 Oct 2021). For just USD 300, the W6600X provides 9.8 Peak Teraflops (FP32) compared to 5.6 Peak Teraflops (FP32) for the W5500X GPU option.
