Earlier this month Finnish Varjo, the leader in industrial-grade VR/XR hardware and software, announced they were shipping their next-generation virtual reality and mixed reality headsets—the VR-3 and XR-3.
The latest headsets are aimed at professional workflows and both units boast universal PC compatibility and cutting-edge technology Architosh has noted before in an earlier report. They offer the industrial markets the most advanced immersive capabilities.
VR-3 and XR-3
Varjo’s XR-3 and VR-3 headsets are not only making photorealistic immersive applications more widely accessible than ever, but they are also accelerating the spatial computing revolution in the workplace overall,” said Urho Konttori, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Varjo. “Thanks to a lower price point, coupled with the absolute best technology available, such as human-eye resolution at over 70 pixels per degree and LiDAR for seamless depth awareness, these headsets unlock an entirely new set of experiences where users can no longer tell the difference between what is real and what is not. This is an essential factor for driving broader professional adoption and seamlessly integrating XR technologies into users’ daily workflows.”
Since their introduction and launch in December of last year, Varjo has seen tremendous interest and traction in this next generation set of VR and XR hardware—focused on industries like training and simulation, automotive and medical, as well as new verticals for the first time.
The Finnish Air Force has developed a pioneering Live-Virtual-Constructive pilot training solution, combining live Hawk aircraft in the air with mixed reality simulation on the ground as part of the same training environment. And a company named Laerdal, a global leader in patient simulation, is working with Varjo with the goal of creating the next generation of immersive, mixed reality training for medical scenarios using the Varjo XR-3. This new effort and the technology behind it can transform how healthcare professionals across the world can work together in any medical scenario, seamlessly collaborating and sharing their knowledge.
Varjo recently joined Unity’s Verified Solutions Partner program as the first extended reality hardware provider, ensuring that the latest Varjo headsets are now fully verified to work with Unity. In addition, Varjo headsets are now compatible with Unreal Engine, Lockheed Martin Prepar3d™, VBS BlueIG™ and FlightSafety Vital™ among dozens of other applications, allowing users to utilize the software they are already familiar with to create their mixed reality applications.
Availability
Companies can purchase the Varjo VR-3 and XR-3 on Varjo’s website or through one of their 35 certified reseller partners for $3,195 (USD and Euros) and $5,495 (USD and Euros), respectively.
