Abvent released the new Twinmotion 2019 during the week of the 2018 AIA National Convention and Expo in New York City. A winner in Architosh’s AIA 2018 BEST of SHOW honors in the Innovation category, the new Twinmotion 2019 has an array of great new features that extend beyond its novel use of the Unreal Game Engine.

New in Twinmotion 2019

Twinmotion 2019 is novel in several ways. As discussed in the 2015 Perspectives on BEST of SHOW article several years ago, the “game-ification” of Architecture has meant that traditionally leading game design technologies have taken up residence in the AEC tech software industry. Twinmotion is one such company, basing its product on the Unreal Game engine, a change that also brought Apple macOS native support.

The big new features in 2019 include engaging interactive VR menus so you can explore your Twinmotion interactive 3D models in VR headsets. There is also perspective correction, compass, parallel views and measuring tools all added to this release.

For BIM integration, the app has native sync support for both Autodesk Revit and GRAPHISOFT ARCHICAD. BIM models from those programs now sync 50 percent faster than in the previous release. There is also a new Product Manager which launches the application and manages updates, add-ins, and events.

Rendering and Materials

Rendering in version 2019 has also been improved. Its visual quality was noted in its BEST of SHOW report award commentary. New optimizations include reflection of volumes and materials, white model rendering, and scene lighting options.

To help interactive model scenes look even better, Abvent added 90+ construction objects, 540 flags, 30+ decorative object, and similar amounts to new PBR materials and specific tags.

Users of Twinmotion 2019 also benefit from Twinlinker, an online location for virtual visits…it helps users easily create and share virtual tours of projects, good for clients and various stakeholders.
