Autodesk announced this month that it has invested in Smartvid.io and its machine-learning technology for the construction industry. The Boston-based tech company just completed its Series A funding for which Autodesk was a proud investor.

Smartvid.io is Machine Learning for Construction Risk Reduction

Smartvid.io’s tech uses machine learning to automate speech and image recognition, make photos and video searchable using system generated SmartTags, and to provide metrics on project delivery safety, productivity, and quality.

Users let Smartvid.io automatically scan job site photos and videos for safety risks. This same system allows teams to monitor construction quality and track progress. By using AI to detect aspects of construction risks found in video and construction photos, construction companies can begin to avail themselves of the embedded knowledge and intel visible in the imagery they already capture today.

The investment is expected to help accelerate the delivery of AI (artificial intelligence) to the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry and the built environment.

Autodesk BIM 360 Integration

Smartvid.io was founded by Josh Kanner, who previously had founded Vela Systems, which ultimately was acquired by Autodesk and became Autodesk BIM 360 Field. Smartvid.io is also integrated into Autodesk’s BIM 360 software.

01 – Smartvid.io is a hot startup in the AEC industry that Autodesk has just announced investment in. The technology intelligently makes better use of industrial photos and videos companies capture in construction.

Autodesk has its own machine learning and AI-based systems in Autodesk BIM 360 Project IQ, which identifies and prioritizes risk on a project site before those risks turn into costly problems. The company continues to invest in both machine-learning and AI.
