GRAPHISOFT, of Budapest, the leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) architectural software developer, is proud to announce that HDR | Rice Daubney, a client based in Sydney, Australia, has won five global healthcare awards.

ArchiCAD Behind Award Winning Architecture

Achieving the highest honor in all categories, recognizing excellence in research and practice of global healthcare design, the vision behind the Lifehouse Centre was to become Sydney’s premier Integrated Cancer Center, a center for excellence based on redefining the patience experience. The vision centered on a genuine, patient-focused facility, broad-based holistic treatment in a world-class clinical environment with integrated research programs.

The five honors bestowed on this new cutting edge facility are:

  • World Architecture Festival 2014 — Health Category Winner, Singapore
  • Design and Health International Academy Awards 2014 (Interior Design Category) Toronto
  • Modern Healthcare Design Awards (Awards of Excellence) Chicago
  • Healthcare Design Magazine’s Design Showcase (Award of Merit) San Diego
  • Contract Healthcare Environment Awards (Honorable Mention, Acute Category) San Diego

The architectural response encourages knowledge sharing through internal spaces designed to promote informal discussions between staff and researchers and maximizes integration of staff and the public to produce a ‘health building.’

ArchiCAD’s Role

“Throughout the design-build process, ArchiCAD was instrumental in helping us communicate the project to all stakeholders involved, including the center’s researchers and clinicians, to ensure that doctors, patients, and families alike would benefit from the center’s mission,” said Ron Hicks, Principal, Head of Health + Research, HDR | Rice Daubney.

The patients are centric to the design from the point of arrival, through to the experience of moving through the facility. Waiting areas and corridors are celebrated—views and aspect showcased, the quality of the filtered light defined as the central concept. Light is uplifting.
