Nemetschek of Germany has ambitious plans ahead as it has announced bim+, a new open platform for the global building industry with Apple iOS applications and web services.

What is bim+

bim+ is a new Internet-based open platform that connects building industry participants (these include design, engineering and construction professionals along with building owners and facility managers) with each other and with BIM (Building Information Modeling) data, including geometry models from various BIM authoring and CAD apps plus extensive, associated BIM data.

The company says it is an “All-Connect, All-Open and All-Easy” cloud-based technology offering with an included app marketplace along with BIM cloud storage.

01 - bim+ is a new BIM cloud technology platform and app marketplace for the AEC industry.

bim+ and the Cloud Storage Story

Nemetschek bim+ is meant as a rival cloud storage competitor for BIM model data. It is Open BIM compliant (ie; based on Open BIM technologies like IFC 2×3 (Industry Foundation Classes) and other industry standard file-exchange technology associated with buildingSMART.

In the All-Connect aspect “all players” can use bim+ to view and operate collaboratively on the BIM models stored in its cloud servers. Like other recently new BIM cloud server and storage options, multiple BIM authoring packages can be utilized. bim+ cloud storage can import models created with any modeling tool. Apps in the bim+ AppStore allow access and use of the connected BIM models via mobile devices like iPads and iPhones and from desktop workstations.

The “all open” aspect of bim+ is that is not just Open BIM compliant with its technology but truly vendor neutral, allowing a fair-play policy for all brands in AEC. For people in the AEC industry bim+ AppStore is a central place to access all available apps and enterprise tools. Apps in the bim+ AppStore cover a wide array of functions like energy calculations, model viewers and annotation, rendering, problem spotting, project tracking et cetera. Contributing independent software developers (ISVs) get compensated through a revenue-share payback scheme and benefit from a larger international marketplace.

02 - bim+ uniquely features a BIM mobile and enterprise AppStore specifically for the AEC industry. Currently there is a sampling of coming soon apps for iOS from multiple vendors.

Nemetschek AG is a leader in the AEC industry with over 50 years of professional building experience and operations with Europe and multiple continents. The company is the umbrella owners of leading CAD and BIM technology brands like Graphisoft Architect, Vectorworks, Maxon CINEMA 4D and many others. It is very well positioned to offer an international BIM industry marketplace.

The “all-easy” story is that the bim+ online experience and market is visually easy to understand and interface with. bim+ is based on the latest Internet and cloud technology. This allows anytime, anywhere (AtAW) access for all users from desktop or portable mobile device. bim+ is based on a “pay-per-use” subscription model. This makes the platform very affordable for smaller AEC enterprises and small groups doing smaller and ad-hock projects.
