A market report on the global CAD market concludes that the global CAD market will post revenues of up to $8.2 US billion dollars by 2016, based on a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 8.60 percent during the 2012 – 2016 period.

The report says that the majority of this revenue will come from three regions, Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America. According to TechNavio’s report, the Global CAD market for 2012 – 2016 gain the largest revenue contribution from the Europe region, followed by Asia-Pacific and North America. The need for product visualization is expected to be one of the key drivers that will drive growth for this market.

The report acknowledges that certain factors can affect this expected growth in the global CAD market, including the threat from open source and pirated CAD software solutions.

Region Overview

Europe accounted for the largest share of revenue in the global CAD market in 2012. This large revenue contribution from Europe is mainly due to increased presence of companies across industries such as Automative, Aerospace, Electrical and Electronics, and Industrial Machinery.

International Players Dominating Market

Another interesting finding but not terribly surprising is that larger international global CAD providers are expected to gain market share over smaller regional and local suppliers of this software. Well-diversified international CAD companies are acquiring smaller regional or local suppliers as they expand their global foot-prints. It is expected, says the report, that international providers will grow inorganically through 2016.

Key larger global providers of CAD mentioned in the report include: Alibre Design, Autodesk Inc., Aveva Group, Bentley Systems, ESI Group, Integraph Corporation, Nemetschek AG, Parametric Technology Corp., progeCAD, and Siemens AG.

Research Report Details

Key questions addressed in the report include such items as projected market size, drivers in the market growth, challenges facing combatants in the global CAD market, new market opportunities and threats and strengths and weaknesses of key vendors.
