Bentley’s Be Inspired conference in Amsterdam has resulted in several announcements for iOS users who are also Bentley-centric AEC professionals. The leading AEC software company and producer of Microstation announced the release of new versions of Navigator Pano Review for iPad (formerly Bentley Navigator for iPad) and ProjectWise Explorer Mobile (formerly known as ProjectWise Explorer for iPad).

Bentley has communicated with Architosh in the past about their deep commitment to bringing their technologies to the new mobile platforms, initiating that reach with the market-leading Apple iOS platform. They are also expanding to support Google Android and the new Microsoft Surface.

To further reach the mobility needs of its users, Bentley will soon be releasing SDK (software developer kits) for developers to create their own custom apps. These will be available through the Bentley Developer Network. The company is creating a proprietary i-model technology with SQLite relational databases to help expand the use and interaction of i-models on mobile platforms with better visualization, drawings and other data types.

Updated iOS Apps from Bentley

  • Navigator Pano Review — This app lets you navigate, view and mark-up 3D models for design review and coordination as well as safety inspections, all with full markup synchronization in collaborative workflows. The app uses the iPad’s motion sensors to allow you to move through the model much like Graphisoft’s BIMx app. You can create points of interest in the models and save them. This app uses Bentley’s i-model technology (itself a container for open infrastructure information exchange) and can combine DGN, Revit, DWG, DXF, Rhino and 3DS files. Navigator Pano Review requires a ProjectWise Passport Subscription.
  • ProjectWise Explorer Mobile — This iPad app brings a powerful subset of the features available on Bentley’s ProjectWise system to your iPad. Used for engineering team coordination and work sharing, ProjectWise Explorer Mobile enables you to send packages to the iPad for use at the construction site or other remote location. You can view content, see properties of files, share files with other applications and markup files with other applications and then re-export the return package to ProjectWise Explorer for desktop synchronization. ProjectWise Explorer Mobile requires a ProjectWise Passport Subscription.

In addition to these two iOS apps for iPad Bentley also makes a product called Structural Synchronizer View for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. This app enables the viewing of structural models on your Apple iOS device. You can view and explore 3D structural models created using Structural Synchronizer V8i, which is a key component of an Integrated Structural Modeling workflow.

All of these iOS apps from Bentley are free and are seen as key mobility extensions for Bentley software based professionals. The latest version 1.1.1 of Structural Synchronizer is now localized for German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese.
