We continue our SIGGRAPH 2012 reports with news from Smith Micro. At SIGGRAPH they announced their Service Release 3 for Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012 products and well as the upcoming launch for Reality 3 for Poser. This latter item was especially exciting for Poser users at the show to grab a peak at.
Power Pro 2012 powers a new GoZ plugin for Pixologic’s popular ZBrush application (see our recent news o ZBrush). “Service Release 3 is always the most anticipated update to Poser, and this time around we’ve upped the offering with lots of user-requested enhancements and a few exciting new features that will thrill our vibrant community of 3D artists and animators,” said Steve Cooper, Senior Product Manager for Smith Micro Software Inc. “With SR3 as our stable foundation, we’re very excited to unveil deep Poser Pro integration with ZBrush and full support for Reality 3 in Poser.”
Reality 3 for Poser
Booth visitors got a peak of Reality 3 for Poser, launching globally in November of 2012. Reality 3 will give Poser users access to the power of LuxRender, providing unbiased, physically accurate, and GPU rendering to help artists produce hyper realistic imagery. With Reality 3 Smith Micro is claiming that users will be able to create finished projects that rival those created using products that cost several thousands of dollars.
“Reality 3 for Poser opens a new world of possibilities to Poser users who will be able to create incredibly realistic images with the ease of use that made Reality famous,” said Paolo Ciccone, founder of Reality. “Over the past few months we’ve joined forces to define a new framework for the development of Poser plug-ins; Reality 3 for Poser is the first of such plug-ins, a sophisticated bridge between Poser and the physically-based LuxRender application. I can’t wait to see what Poser artists will do with Reality 3.”
Poser SR3 and More
Service Release 3 brings includes rigging updates and improved scaling and bending for better performing figures. There is also a new search feature, Morph Brush expansions and tablet support improvements.
“ZBrush is an incredibly popular tool, well known for its use in the creation of 3D characters and visual effects in many blockbuster films and video games including Avatar and Lord of the Rings,” added Steve Cooper. “With GoZ, we provide a link between the power of ZBrush with the broad appeal of Poser Pro, ultimately providing a fantastic workflow for any 3D character artist.”
“Using the new Poser GoZ functionality saved me tons of time in creating full body and facial morph targets for Miki 4,” said Teyon Alexander, staff artist for Smith Micro Software. “Normally I’d have to do a lot of extra mouse clicks to move back and forth between Poser and ZBrush, but with GoZ, getting morphs out of ZBrush and into Poser was virtually instantaneous. GoZ support in Poser will definitely save me time and streamline the process for content creation.”
Users can downlaod SR3 later this month. The GoZ plugin is available at now extra cost for Poser 9 and Poser 2012 users. Poser Pro 2012 retails for 499.USD while Poser 9 retails for 249.USD. To learn more visit them here.
