Autodesk’s sweeping vision for Forma as the AEC/O industry’s cloud platform has become much clearer and real as unveiled at AU2025 this year in Nashville, Tennessee. We have already written one report on the brand-new Forma Building Design (see: Architosh, “AU25: Autodesk Introduces Forma Building Design,” September 16, 2025), but plan to unpack a few technical aspects that few in the press are aware of.
Below, we summarize other recent Forma announcements.
What’s New
The second major news item regarding Forma is that Autodesk is integrating Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) into Forma. In doing so, Autodesk is delivering the AEC/O industry’s first full lifecycle platform in the building industry, from pre-design and planning to building operations. Autodesk touted the ability to link deeper connections between design data and construction and operations data through this full-lifecycle platform, but the full benefits of that will take time as numerous applications and platforms continue to get more granular with their data and more unified.
A significant new development is the introduction of Autodesk Estimate, a cloud-based estimating solution that handles both 2D and 3D takeoffs, linking quantification to material and labor costs. This solution is also part of the unified Forma industry cloud.
Finally, what was previously named Autodesk Forma is now rebranded as Forma Site Design. Autodesk says this change in name reflects the multitude of ways AEC/O users can get started with Forma industry cloud. For example:
- Begin in the Forma industry cloud from day one by carrying out your site planning in Forma Site Design.
- Access Forma industry cloud capabilities through the next major release of Revit, the first Forma Connected Client.
- Bring your data to Forma Data Management (previously Autodesk Docs) to benefit from the power of Forma.
- Continue using the benefits of Autodesk Construction Cloud in your current workflows, with no migration or configuration changes needed.
One customer playing out the benefits of the Forma vision is Dutch design-build firm Dura Vermeer, which utilizes Forma Site Design (formerly Forma) and ACC to streamline their workflows across planning, construction, and the full building lifecycle.
“Our sector is evolving rapidly and digital tools are helping us work smarter and faster,” said Gert-Jan Ditsel, Business Partner Digital Construction at Dura Vermeer. “Using Autodesk Forma and Autodesk Construction Cloud has improved how our teams collaborate—from initial design to final construction. For example, we’ve significantly reduced coordination time and improved project delivery timelines. These technologies are helping us deliver better outcomes for our clients and unlock new opportunities for innovation within our business.”
