Matterport this week introduced its all-new Matterport Pro3 camera, together with major updates to its digital twin platform. This enables AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) professionals to transform how they manage projects and visualize their workspaces.
Matterport Pro3 Camera
With its striking new design, the Matterport Pro3 camera is Matterport’s lightest and most compact camera to date. It has been designed for maximum portability and ease of use.
Matterport Pro3 integrates well with Matterport’s other products. For example, you can take the entire Matterport platform wherever you go with its fully-featured mobile application, the Matterport App.
This brings together the capture, customization, editing, publishing, restoring, and viewing capabilities of digital twins on both iOS and Android devices.
Key features of the new Pro3
- 20-megapixel sensor and 12-element wide-angle lens for ultra-wide capture of large spaces and creation of life-like digital twins.
- Captures 100,000 points per second at field depths ranging from 50 centimeters up to 100 meters.
- Captures high-fidelity digital twins indoors and outdoors, even in strong sunlight.
- Fast booting. Camera boot time is less than 40 seconds.
- High-precision LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor for unparalleled precision in various light conditions.
- New tripod mount engineered for Pro3 and new cases for maximum portability and protection.
- Removable rechargeable battery packs for continuous scanning, batteries fully recharge in 3.5 hours.
- Scans large design, and construction spaces up to 4 times faster than Matterport’s earlier Pro2.
- Weighing under 2.4 kg, the Matterport Pro3 camera is 30% smaller and 35% lighter than its earlier Pro2 camera.
Advanced 3D capture device
The Matterport Pro3 Camera is one of the world’s most advanced 3D capture devices. Its powerful combination of sensors creates stunning images, both indoors and outdoors. With a custom 20-megapixel sensor and 12-element lens covering an ultra-wide angle, the Pro3 camera produces accurate, detailed digital twins in brilliant, life-like color. Breakthroughs in the high-precision LiDAR sensor enable the capture of millions of measurements in various conditions, from dim light to direct sunlight, up to a range of 100 meters at less than 20 seconds per sweep.
The Pro3 camera sets new standards for accuracy, fidelity, speed, and versatility. Interactive mesh previously had a 50k polygon limit. This is now unlimited, and the mesh for large spaces can easily exceed one million polygons. New digital twins are now streamed on demand. The user moves through a virtual space that is available on mobile and web platforms. It offers faster load times, quicker frame rates, and much more detail.
Matterport’s Cortex AI engine has been upgraded to capture five times higher range. This enables users to transform their interior and exterior spaces, even when encountering difficult foliage, lighting, and reflective surfaces. The combined power of the new Matterport Digital Twin platform, Matterport Pro3 camera, and the recently upgraded Cortex AI produces some of the most stunningly accurate and immersive digital twins ever created.
Lou Marzano, Vice President of Matterport R&D and Manufacturing explains:
“The Pro3 camera reflects years of advanced R&D and listening closely to our customers. The result is a breakthrough in 3D capture technology. The demands of the digital-first industry push our product standards to new levels, making precision, range, and mobility critical to our customer’s success. We put all of this together into a portable device that achieves a new threshold for the price-to-performance of commercial LiDAR capture. Some of our largest enterprise customers have already put Pro3 to the test – capturing large outdoor venues from stadiums to campuses with speed and accuracy never before seen. Like the Pro1 and Pro2 that came before it, the Pro3 camera is in a class by itself, and I am so proud of the team behind yet another industry first.”
