Our upcoming Xpresso newsletter, issue 30, will delve into the role of Autodesk and the reconstruction efforts for Notre-Dame de Paris, after the tragic fire in April of 2019.

The issue will focus particularly on the role of BIM but covers the developments of the groups put in charge by the French national government, the extent of documentation of the Notre-Dame, the role reality-capture technology played in helping with the formation of a BIM model, how BIM can play in part in construction, plus Autodesk’s range of technical assistance.

Readers will learn also about how Revit could deal with such a complex historic building and what Autodesk hoped to learn from its involvement in the reconstruction efforts. Moreover, we detail BIM to digital twin possibilities and companies in France that offer digital twin technologies.

BIM is the focus of Xpresso No 30.

Xpresso No. 30 focuses on Notre-Dame cathedral and its reconstruction and the BIM model Autodesk contributed to the efforts, among a series of technical assistance.

The spire is unique to the cathedral in more ways than one, including being unique in the 3D BIM model. We cover what technology was used to model the complex spire, which burned and crashed down to the ground. We also cover the all-important timber required to rebuild the roof and the source forests from which oak would be obtained.

The issue is packed with a range of resources online about Notre-Dame reconstruction after the fire.
