Autodesk has announced its annual update to its most famous software. Meet AutoCAD 2022. The latest version of AutoCAD is focused on “connected workflows.”

AutoCAD 2022

AutoCAD 2022 provides access to seven industry-specific toolsets with built-in automation to accelerate workflows across various industries. A license to AutoCAD 2022 includes AutoCAD Web and AutoCAD Mobile apps to facilitate anytime, anywhere access to your CAD data. AutoCAD 2022 and AutoCAD LT 2022 offer users many updates as noted below and there is a separate Mac release as is common. (more on that here.)

Autodesk AutoCAD 2022

AutoCAD 2022 and AutoCAD LT 2022 offer numerous new features for more connected design experiences, including solid improvements to both mobile and web app versions.

There are several major new features and updates in AutoCAD 2022.

Trace

Trace enables. you and your collaborators to markup DWG files without altering the existing drawing. A client, for example, can mark up design suggestions or changes they want to seeing using Trace on Autodesk Web or Autodesk Mobile. These Trace changes then appear in AutoCAD on the desktop where the feedback can be responded to.

Share

With Share, AutoCAD 2022 users can better work with teammates, using Share to select levels of access, such as “view-only” or “edit” and send controlled copies of drawings to your team. You can also generate Share links from AutoCAD 2022 and AutoCAD Web and the links open up directly in AutoCAD Web.

Count

Autodesk is touting its new Count features as automation tools. The new Count feature automates the counting of blocks or geometry to save time and reduce human counting mistakes. This is valuable to avoid miscounting parts or ordering incorrect quantities. Users can also export data to dynamic tables.

Autodesk Docs and Other Features

AutoCAD 2022 features Push to Autodesk Docs, allowing users to publish CAD drawing sheets to PDF directly from within AutoCAD to Autodesk Docs. This eliminates the need to save PDFs locally, manage where you store them, and open up a web browser to then upload PDF files to Autodesk Docs up in the cloud.

Autodesk AutoCAD 2022

The new Share features in AutoCAD 2022 help users work more efficiently with colleagues directly from AutoCAD.

You can now connect to Autodesk Drive and Autodesk Docs from within AutoCAD Web. With AutoCAD Web and Mobile, you can access your files in the cloud. These additional integrations further the anytime, anywhere, any device type of access users want with their data.

Rounding out other key feature improvements, AutoCAD 2022 now features Floating windows support, enabling users to view and edit multiple drawings within the same instance of AutoCAD. Organized in drawing tabs, multiple drawing windows with different files opened will be a game-changer for many users. Windows can also be spread out across multiple monitors.

Graphics performance has been improved enabling a faster working experience and there is a redesigned start tab for easy access to files and other helpful content from the home screen.

“We aim to create modern, connected workflows and harness automation to save time, improve accuracy, and enhance collaboration wherever you work,” says Marcus O’Brien, Senior Director of AutoCAD product management. “We are working to give our users an unprecedented design experience on whatever device they choose.”

Availability and Trials

The new version of AutoCAD is available today. Prospective users can create an Autodesk Account and download a 30-day trial version of AutoCAD 2022 or AutoCAD LT 2022.

While AutoCAD Web app is included with a subscription of AutoCAD 2022, non-users who want to give it a test drive can do so through the ongoing (global pandemic response-based) Web Access Program by logging into the AutoCAD Web app today.
