Architosh Publishes INSIDER Xpresso #01 — newsletter looks at AI and Machine Learning in Architecture

In Issue #1, learn what five experts think about if AI and Machine Learning pose an existential threat to architects, how they feel the future of education should work for architects; also, will AI and ML democratize good architecture for everybody? Can architecture have a DNA and Genome? And a whole lot more.

ARCHITOSH HAS LAUNCHED its first issue of INSIDER Xpresso newsletter, devoted to high-level summary and in-depth content focused on the impact emTech (emergent technologies) will have on the CAD industries. Our first issue focuses primarily on AI and machine learning as well as Smart Cities tech.

The new newsletter is free and is delivered on the first Sunday morning of the month. Readers can sign-up for it here and obtain the first issue online.

What’s In Issue #01

The first issue features a special report titled, “Pondering the Impact of AI (artificial intelligence) in AEC Industries—the Wide View.”  This feature sprung from a discussion panel with five leading computational design experts who are investigating AI and ML (machine learning) in their practices, academia, and research.

01 – INSIDER Xpresso issue #01 has a headline feature that ponders and implications of AI and ML in the field of architecture. The article captures a panel discussion with five computational design experts from around the world.

Computational design tools such as Grasshopper, Dynamo, and Marionette all have the capacity to provide node-based visual programming tools that engage with direct connections to ML (machine learning) tools. One of our panelist, Radu Gidei, while a BIM Manager at Grimshaw in London, authored AI for Dynamo, a package that brings in ML to Dynamo in just four nodes.

02 – Ian Keogh and Anthony Hauck of Hypar are included in our panel discussion on AI and ML in architecture.

03 – House plans ML (machine learning) generated by Natasha Bajc, one of our expert panelist.

04 – Another image of the Hypar.io platform for computational design.

Natasha Bajc, another expert on the panel has investigated machine learning generation of house plans by training an AI on thousands of examples. This is just one of her present research efforts in AI.

Architosh hosted a three-hour long panel discussion on the impacts of AI on Architecture, resulting in the special feature report in issue #01. The remaining contents of the newsletter can be summarized as follows by reading our TOC.

  • The Editor’s View: Welcome to INSIDER Xpresso
  • Special Report: Pondering the Impact of AI (artificial intelligence) in AEC Industries—the Wide View
  • emTech: Let’s discuss how AI, AR, AAD, Robotics, 3D printing and more will transform the CAD industries
  • The Briefing: A breakdown of the biggest CAD and 3D industry news
  • Xpresso: This month on Architosh

Each month’s newsletter will follow a similar format with some variation. Our emTech section is the heart of the newsletter, offering the reader expertly chosen curated content; in issue #01 we focus on AI to ML, from basics to advanced concerns, plus a quick look at where AI and ML are being deployed now in CAD and BIM. The rest of our emTech section looks at Smart Cities discussions and ends with Tidbits for the Salon, emTech news stories of particularly high interest.
