Mac stalwart application formZ, by AutoDesSys, works with Apple’s new macOS 10.12 Sierra. That’s the good news. The bad news—and it really isn’t that bad—is that installing formZ onto a new machine running macOS 10.12 Sierra will be affected by new security restrictions imposed by Gatekeeper in Sierra.
Gatekeeper Limitations
Apple has made significant changes to Gatekeeper in macOS 10.12 Sierra. So, while the latest version of formZ v8.5 is compatible the following installation limitations apply:
- formZ 8.5 can be installed on macOS 10.12 Sierra using the formZ 8.5.5 disk images (which were released on 21 Sep 2016. These disk images can be accessed using the installation links in users’ original license information email.
There are other limitations in the various ways you can install or reinstall formZ versions. These include limitations on installing formZ version 7 and formZ version 6 (which isn’t a true native OS X app).
In general, any version of formZ (or bonzai3d) that is installed on a machine prior to upgrading to macOS 10.12 Sierra should function, provided that a reinstallation, if it should become necessary, will add complexities. Read this AutoDesSys tech post for more information.
