Chicago isn’t just one of the preeminent architectural capitals of America, it the preeminent capital of the world of the birth the skyscraper! Wright, Mies, Sullivan and so many other architectural giants have many of their masterworks inside or near Chicago’s famed streets, channels and lake shoreline.

It is also the location for this year’s annual Vectorworks Design Summit, a new global event for the CAD leader which focuses on design, technology and their interaction within the confines of the Vectorworks-based workflow.

Many associated partner software and hardware companies attend their event’s exposition, while attendees gain CEU’s for their industry, socialize at fun networking events, and use free time to explore the city.

It is also the one and only place to get a sneak peak at the future of Vectorworks, in a much looked forward to keynote by Dr. Biplab Sarkar, chief technology officer.

Win a Free Trip—Use Your Creativity!

Anybody can win a free trip to the Design Summit in Chicago this coming April (25-27). The annual event is the premier global event to learn about the future of where Vectorworks CAD and BIM solutions are headed, where to gain direct Vectorworks instruction with hands-on assistance from the company’s own technical staff and developers, and importantly where to get inspired by fellow practitioners, researchers and academics who discuss various design workflows, technical issues and solutions and toolchain interoperability solutions and work-arounds across an array of issues.

Here is a sampling:

  • Marc Pancera, from the Swiss architectural giant, Itten+Brechbühl AG, will be covering BIM and how to get there for both intermediate and advanced Vectorworks users
  • Nathan Kipnis, FAIA, principal at Kipnis Architecture + Planning, will be discussing energy modeling for the 2030 Commitment, and will be showing how to technically calculate a project’s predicted Energy Use Intensity (pEUI) number and utilize the AIA’s 2030 DDX website which will be doing the data collection and analysis for this type of data.
  • Sarah Barrett, from Vectorworks, Inc., and the company’s go-to expert on Marionette, will be giving a talk on Parametric Thinking, using Vectorworks’ new visual scripting environment Marionette. The session will help users understand what parametric thinking looks like and how to apply it, as well as more technical and specific knowledge such as utilizing the Python scripting system.
  • Brian Hores, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, of Flansburgh Architects, one of Boston’s premier architecture practices, will be giving an intermediate level discussion on Vectorworks Architect and the IFC standard for BIM workflows.

Other sessions focus on entertainment design professionals, landscape architecture professionals and general design practitioners, including sessions on using various tool chains for competitions, rendering and more. There will be parties for network, an mini expo, time for a personal meeting with Vectorworks folks, and also the Marionette Science Fair where participants can win a free Apple Watch.
