sg 2014 HONG KONG
This year the SmartGeometry Conference will be held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, China, from 14-19 July 2014. The Workshop and Conference will home a community of innovators in the fields of architecture, design and engineering. SG has been hosting this in different cities across the world since 2010. This workshop/conference attracts attendees from academia, innovative students, and professional practice to come together and work on progressing Urban Design. The workshop is open to 100 applicants who get to come together for four intensive days of design and collaboration.
The event will be in two parts, a four day Workshop 14-17 July, and a public conference beginning with Talkshop 18 July, followed by a Symposium 19 July.
CHALLENGE: URBAN COMPACTION
Large cities like Hong Kong thrive on density and diversity lending themselves to opportunity in designing stronger proximate communities. Beyond the need for clear energy and limiting pollution, there are complex issues at play such as concentrating population and building infrastructure in contemporary high-rise cities. Cities like Hong Kong are complicated urban systems that depend on predicting ways that lead to good design and high quality urban environments.
The annual Workshop is organised around “Clusters”. In these Clusters participants will work together with a common framework of knowledge, tools, materials and machines.
