3D Systems acquires Xerox’s Solid Ink Engineering and Development Teams

Xerox’s solid-ink engineering technology and teams acquired by 3D Systems in all cash deal

3D Systems has acquired the engineering assets and teams from Xerox’s well-regarded Oregon-based solid ink engineering division, in a $32 million USD all cash acquisition. Xerox had acquired the elite brand and well regarded Tektronix Color Printing and Imaging Division from Tektronix back in 2000, based in Wilsonville, Oregon.

3D Systems expects the acquisition of Xerox’s engineering development teams, state of the art labs, and relevant patent portfolio to catapult its printers development and manufacturing capabilities in the decade ahead.

“This bold step is consistent with our belief that we must act quickly and decisively to extend and cement our marketplace leadership position and leverage unique opportunities to bring affordable, high performance new products to market years ahead of what would have been possible to accomplish organically,” said Avi Reichental, 3D Systems’ President and CEO.

Architosh Analysis

This is an interesting development and one would think that a company like Xerox might acquire the smaller company in 3D Systems. In fact some are speculating that it’s just a matter of time before a big billion-dollar multi-national tech giant enters the 3D printer market and upends everyone.
