From Munich, Germany, came news this week of bim+ by Nemetschek. The new online BIM platform is now active online. (see image 01 below)

What is bim+

Nemetschek’s bim+ is an open, web-based BIM platform for the building industry and a brand of Nemetschek, Europe’s largest AECO software company. bim+ is now available to architects, engineers, constructors and owner and operators of real estate.

bim+ essentially allows building information modeling (BIM) geometry models to be directly imported into the bim+ cloud where they can be accessed and edited using innovative apps and services on any computing device (personal computer, tablet or smartphone). The goal is to help synchronize data and help AECO teams and stakeholders simplify their daily work and avoid costly errors.

A Unique Take

bim+ by Nemetschek is a unique take on the approach towards AEC collaboration. The web-based platform supports the easy development of very specific (or not so specific) bim+ apps, oriented towards handling models in different formats and for differing disciplines and purposes.

01 - bim+ by Nemetschek is a new web-based BIM collaboration platform for hosting BIM information. The service and technology works across all common model and BIM file formats and supports Open BIM and IFC standards.

01 – bim+ by Nemetschek is a new web-based BIM collaboration platform for hosting BIM information. The service and technology works across all common model and BIM file formats and supports Open BIM and IFC standards…and includes a range of iPad apps.

bim+ is unique because it is a platform for collaborative use and processing of building information via an “open” web-based platform. bim+ is vendor independent (and neutral) and embraces industry standards like IFC and Open BIM. The bim+ API is open and supports all popular CAD and CAE (computer-aided engineering) file formats.

Germany based bim+ Listing of Apps

The bim+ open platform provides cloud based storage for building models. A unique BIM server is at the heart of the Germany-based him+ platform and provides all of the mission critical services for BIM processes:

  • BIM model import, conversion and storage
  • User management — with rights and roles, subscriptions, invitations, etc
  • Model management — multi-models, model integration
  • bim+ Explorer for iPad
  • bim+ Connect for iPad
  • bim+ Annotate for iPad
  • bim+ Teamwork for Windows
  • bim+ Web Explorer for web browsers – optimized for Windows, Mac OS X and Android tablets (note – iPad users use the dedicated, purpose built Explorer for iPad rather than the browser)

Third party developers so far for launch date have created the following applications and services:

  • VuFramePro — from doPanic GmbH
  • CL3VER 3D Animation — from CL3VER

As noted earlier the API is open for all developers.

BIM Platforms and Formats Supported

Supported BIM and model formats include Nemetschek Allplan, Nemetschek Vectorworks, Scia Engineer, Graphisoft ArchiCAD, Autodesk Revit and Trimble SketchUp. And IFC is a foundational interoperability standard of data transmission.

ALLPLAN Benefits

Users of Nemetschek Allplan CAD software can benefit from a native interface as well as Allplan ServicePlus customers can use bim+ free of charge.
