Mac Land Surveying
Software
Architosh admits this is a tough category for Mac users. Land surveying
software is a very vertical market, and typically the rule of thumb
is: the more vertical the market the less software choices for the
Mac (in proportion to Windows). This rule of thumb applies to just
about every market segment excepting the graphics and publishing
markets, film and digital video, music, education and certain sci/tech
markets. In other words, excepting all Mac strongholds.
Choices in Land Surveying and Geography-Related Items
One excellent land modeling app is Interstudio's
Nonio C, which is now ready for Mac OS X as well. The program
is very useful to surveyors and landscape architects.
Another program more specific to surveyors is Pythagoras,
by ADW Software. The program combines interactive civil/survey
drafting functions with computations. The program also features
terrain modeling options and road design. Pythagoras is the only
software of its kind available for both Mac and Windows.
Nemetschek's new VectorWorks
LANDMARK is a program aimed squarely at landscape architects
and related land design professionals. Other products which may
be of interest to land surveyors include Interstudio's DigiCAD,
a 3D program for doing building surveys (existing condition type
stuff), mapping and photogrammetry. Additionally, DomusTerra
is a smaller version of Nonio C. Cigraph S.r.L.'s HouseMap
is a wonderfully useful program for architects and surveyors taking
measurements in the field on a computer and their ArchiTerra
is a great ArchiCAD add-on app for modeling terrain.
