Featurette: Kevin Cahill of LuminetIK - talented architect uses Macintosh for real architecture, as well as film level 3D

Architosh had the great pleasure of recently featuring LuminetIK, a 3D studio house in New York city that is a big fan of Macintosh computers. Its talented leader, Kevin Cahill, CEO, is not only the lead principal of an important 3D firm, but a talented and busy architect as well.

From Applica to Architecture

When Kevin isn't working on new 3D projects for clients like Applica—the designers of new Black & Decker coffee pots—he is sometimes working on architecture projects. Kevin's education and professional background in architecture allow him to take on exciting projects in his trained field, while he leads LuminetIK's many 3D projects simultaneously.

The photos and 3D rendered views above and below are of a recently completed modernist house for a private client. For architecture and architecture 3D work, Kevin uses Graphisoft's ArchiCAD software, a leading AEC software package that was born on the Macintosh over a decade ago.

Power Mac G4 computers are the preferred platform for ArchiCAD, according to Kevin. While ArchiCAD runs on Windows as well—and LuminetIK's 3D pipeline does include UNIX and NT machines—Kevin feels the Mac is the better platform for ArchiCAD and 3D modeling in general. We naturally agree with him on that point. To learn more about Architects using Macs, visit the reference links below:
