Mac3D: Pixels
4 aiming to be "killer" 3D app
In the world of 3D there are several dozens of excellent 3D applications
at various price points and focused on various markets. Most of
these applications for the Macintosh also run on Windows, despite
the fact that many of the best of them started on the Mac long ago
(eg: FormZ). It is a rare thing to see a good 3D application written
just for the Macintosh. Pixels is just such an application.
Pixels 4 aims to be killer 3D app
Pixels Animation Studios is reportedly closing in on Pixels 3D
version 4, a long awaited complete makeover of their popular 3D
application. Currently they are sold out of the current version
(v.3.7) and not yet taking pre-orders for version 4.
Version
4 promises to be a greatly improved product. The Pixels website
features a sneak
peek at the interface and the program's new features: an open
architecture, improved NURBS modeling, new polygonal modeling, a
whole new interface design and integrated help system built-in to
the application itself.
The company aspires to make version 4 the absolute best NURBS modeler
in the business; they offer a list
of advanced and new features on their website.
Gallery
To take a peek at what Pixels 3D can do visit their full
gallery of images and QuickTime animation movies. The product
is capable of many different tasks, including the development of
humanoids. The examples of the Alia girl, created by Tsutomu Tanonaka,
are especially accomplished...not to mention beautiful.
As you can see from the examples, Pixels 3D is a capable program.
However, Pixels Animation Studios aspires to make version 4 the
best NURBS modeler in the field. If such a goal was attained it
would be one more compelling reason to do 3D exclusively on the
Mac.
