MacCAD: Microspot's MacDraft 5.05 ships for Mac OS X

As expected Microspot has released MacDraft 5.05 for Mac OS X. The company has had an OS X beta out for many months and it was reportedly a very popular download from Apple's Mac OS X application download page.

In addition to the many new features in an already very good product (see our review of MacDraft 5) the latest OS X version uses Apple's Aqua user-interface throughout, as well as Mac OS X's core (Darwin) features.

MacDraft 5 now joins the ranks of a small number of early arrivals in the CAD world to Mac OS X, joining recent arrival ArchiCAD and soon-to-be arrival VectorWorks.

MacDraft 5 is a powerful 2D-based general CAD package with strong Autocad and PCDraft import/export functionality (compatibility), extensive symbol libraries across an array of technical industries, a built-in database for drawing objects, advanced Find & Replace functionality, innovative and easy-to-use cursor selection tools, and good support of color and black & white output. And the program has a very approachable interface. Combine that with its reasonable cost and you have an excellent CAD program for middle and high school students as well as graphics pros who need technical drawing apps occasionally.
