Mac3D: LightWorks
3D kernel now ready for OS X
With the recent news that LightWorks' 3D kernel of the same name
is ready for Mac OS X, the arrival of numerous key 3D and CAD apps
for the Mac should be more realistic.
Coming from Sheffield, in the United Kingdom, the news was seen
as good from Apple's corporate campus, with executive Ron Okamoto,
Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations, making the following
comment for the press release:
ÒBy featuring powerful graphics capabilities,
such as Quartz and OpenGL, Mac OS X is quickly becoming the platform
of choice for 3D design applications". - Ron Okamoto, Apple
Computer Inc.
The new kernel, which allows for 3D rendering operations within
apps, apparently was quick to utilize by developers working on Carbon
versions of their CAD or 3D programs. The FormZ folks claimed to
have integrated the new kernel within hours. Perhaps this is why
the Nemetschek folks have released
version 9.5 of VectorWorks within only a few days of having
this new kernel.
With this key software in place, Ashlar's entire product line,
GESTEL's solidThinking, and others should now be able to fully complete
their Carbonization processes.
