Learning How to Run an Enterprise-class All Mac Architecture Firm

In the following two stories Architosh looks into FAI's mission of serving the educational market with superb architecture, interiors and master planning services, and how information technology has transformed this firm over the last few years. In an indepth interview we discuss how FAI utilizes computers and software to compete for highly sought after educational contracts and how computing is orchestrated within the organizational framework of a large and growing practice.

One of the key ways this large firm competes is by harnessing the value-added features of the Macintosh platform, equipping its field staff with rugged iBooks for remote, database-driven construction administration and working wirelessly with Apple's leading AirPort wireless technology within its expanding office. We also discuss the firm's history with computing, touching on the influences of Autocad, working with VectorWorks, and the way the firm handled Apple's 'Dark Period' in 1997.

In the end we learn that Flansburgh Associates Inc. is not resisting the Digital Revolution in architecture, but rather embracing it, with full open arms...arms wrapped confidently around the Macintosh platform.
