Mac3D: Medical 3D Reader Question Gets Answers

Architosh posted a story last week on a medical 3D question sent in by a reader from the University of Utah School of Medicine. One reader caught the story and posted a useful suggestion:

Here is the answer to the question posted by a reader interested in 3D reconstructions of the retina:

The most powerful program used to perform 3D reconstruction of the type you describe is "Analyze" - a program developed by Mayo biomedical. The earlier versions ran on Mac. The new versions will not run on Mac OS or Linux version. It may be possible to obtain copy of one of the earlier versions of the program for the mac by contacting Mayo biomedical directly. The University of Iowa has a similar program but it is much less sophisticated and I am not sure it would do everything you want.

Thanks to Thane for the helpful information. Hopefully this reader will discover that the Maya clinic still sells the older Macintosh version.
