MWNY: Expo
Pictures - Page 2
Images of the side of the new 'QuickSilver' Power Mac G4 and the
recently introduced 17 inch Apple Studio Display. The lust display
to have is still the 22 inch Cinema
Studio Display but how many of us can afford that?
Although these shots are too dark, you can still see that the G4
case design is essentially the same. On the front new speaker is
larger and much more a prominent design feature. The front panel
is becomes a clean plane of gray that curves at the ends, losing
its depth and transparency from the previous case design.
For many observers, including this one, the best thing Apple could
do to the G4 case is leave it alone. Reactions to pre-show rumors
on different case designs often stated that Apple shouldn't touch
the case at all, except for color. The brilliantly executed side
door access and favorite handles are items high on pro users' lists
for continuation in future pro towers.
Final Cut Pro 2
was shown on many machines at the Apple booth. Final Cut has largely
overtaken Adobe Premier as the preferred non-linear editing system
for digital video professionals and serious amateurs.
What makes Final Cut so great? Apparently from talking to users
of the software, Final Cut succeeds where Adobe fails because it
is an all-inclusive editing and compositing and effects software,
all in one. While After Effects may still reign supreme for effects,
Final Cut offers enough in that department to satisfy a majority
of users who's focus is on editing video and audio.
The 22 inch Cinema Display is the ultimate monitor for Final Cut
users.
