Mac3D news: new interactive 3D technology headed for OS X

Architosh was informed by reader Rory Bergin about EON Reality Inc.'s planned support of Mac OS X in its product line and technology.

What is Eon Reality?

EON is a family of software tools for authoring and distributing real-time 3D content, including over the Web. EON Reality says "think of EON as 'PowerPoint for 3D'". The product line consist of EON Studio, EON Server, EON Plug-ins, EON Immersive and EON SDK (software development kit).

The two authoring tools (Studio and Immersive) allow you to development complete 3D interactive experiences without any programming experience required. You can learn more on the EON Reality web site.

Why Mac OS X and When?

According to a press release back in February of this year EON would be implementing a two stage road map to Mac OS X support, starting with the implementation of the plug-in technology and then in a second stage addressing the authoring tools. The company says:

"This development effort signifies an important strategic move for us. We will now be able to take advantage of the excellent graphics capabilities of the Mac platform and meet the demand for Mac applications from important EON user bases like ArchiCAD and Macromedia", said Mats Johansson, President, EON Reality.

At the moment EON's OS X applications are no where to be seen. We expect them to release news of the OS X EON Plugin in the Macworld Expo time-frame or later, as many companies currently developing OS X applications are waiting for Expo to release their products. We have contacted the company to learn more and are awaiting a response.

EON Reality Inc. is a US-based company with a development office in Goteborg, Sweden. Current customers include corporate giants such as Audi, Volvo, Nokia, Canon, Samsung and many others.
