SIG: Early Impressions—And yes, Apple was at SIGGRAPH

SIGGRAPH 2019 kicked off this Monday in Los Angeles and I have several impressions to begin Architosh’s coverage with.

Day 1

Monday was a beautiful day filled with sunshine as I listened to the Keynote Session featuring Victoria Alonzo, President of Production at Marvel Studios. She was discussing pipelines for visual effects (VFX) production and her first time meeting Katherine Kennedy.

An image from SIGGRAPH 2019 showing attendees in an overflow room watching the keynote talk.

In room 408 AB there are courses and panels on Advances in Real-Time Games, and this year at SIGGRAPH there are overflow rooms like the Geek Bar where you can tune into courses that are full using a headset they provide you. This is really helpful for attendees who can’t be everywhere at all times.

Apple at SIGGRAPH? Yup!

Apple has had Exhibitor Sessions including session titles like: “Modern Mobile Graphics on Metal” and “Apple Inc. Presents Introduction to Reality Kit.”

NVIDIA has a massive booth and presence at SIGGRAPH. On the docket for Day 1, I checked out AMD’s booth to see their next-generation graphics (GPUs) and CPU technologies. (more to come on that).

Look for larger reports on SIGGRAPH 2019 on Architosh shortly.
