Mac legend formZ has gained a new rendering engine—Academy Award-winning V-Ray

AutoDesSys’s formZ, which for years shipped with its own in-house renderer software and then later supported third-party renderers like Maxwell, has announced this week the support for V-Ray for formZ.

Leading V-Ray Supports Stalwart Modeler

formZ is famous for its relatively intuitive modeling capabilities and versatility and now with Chaos Group’s Academy Award-winning V-Ray rendering technology inside formZ users can create quick and solid designs with cutting-edge visualization in a single solution.

01 – V-Ray for formZ is now available, enabling the legendary pro modeling program to offer the industry-leading rendering visualization.

The unprecedented integration with V-Ray allows for rendering and lighting to be an integral part of the design process, not just a final step.

V-Ray for formZ highlights include:

“V-Ray for formZ brings 3D models to life with ease and agility,” says David Kropp, CEO, AutoDesSys, Inc. “We are so excited to add this powerful tool to the formZ product lineup and we cannot wait to see the wonderful creations it fosters.”

Architosh Analysis and Commentary

V-Ray is an interactive-renderer and this was not specifically mentioned in the press materials from AutoDesSys. Interactive-rendering allows the user to do things like move the sun in formZ and then instantly see the results in the interactive render. V-Ray for formZ also supports material overrides which means that the materials from formZ are overwritten by generic or specific V-Ray materials. This is useful for temporarily analyzing lighting as the overrides feature speeds up interactive rendering.

The popularity of V-Ray is undeniable in the architecture community in particular. While other rendering engines and programs abound, Chaos Group’s approach in supporting a multitude of CAD and 3D modeling programs has made it well-known and highly supported. Its hybrid rendering technology (ie: supporting GPU, CPU or GPU+CPU) is cutting edge and its image quality has won the company a technical Academy Award. This new addition will no doubt be well received by loyal formZ users. And it may well entice some non-formZ users to give the program—which ships in three different versions—a good try.
