Not a Number (NaN) presents 3D media platform for wireless communications

According to a press release, Not a Number (NaN), the 3D developer of the advanced Blender application, have presented a technology and production platform for wireless communication and entertainment media: the Blender 3D Media Platform.

Blender Targeted at Wireless Media Platforms

NaN leads the way for wireless 3D as the only company possessing technology efficient enough to run 3D content on mobile devices (smart phones, PDA's, etc.). The Blender 3D Media Platform enriches mobile media services with 3D graphics and 3D movies, enabling multimedia messaging with user-customisable 3D content, 3D games and other interactive presentations. The technology enabling this on the mobile device is the Blender Java Client.

3D on GPRS and UMTS Mobile Networks

The Blender 3D Media Platform (B3DMP) system is developed for any color-enabled GPRS or UMTS mobile device, with a minimal set of processing requirements on the client side (device). The platform streams images in JPEG, PNG, or the new MPEG-4 format to a client mobile device which functions like a remote control and remote display for the application.

The platform has been designed for access by 3rd party applications on the server side as well, for example for MMS (multimedia messaging), 3D e-cards and weather reports. NaN has a unique capability to implement and deliver the technology needed for making content for 3G (third generation) wireless mobile phones and devices. These include:

• Multi-purpose architecture: rendering of 3D stills, movies or 3D games
• The 3D engines run on any UNIX server, independent of graphics and OS
• Small footprint allows engine to run on a single server
• Single server can support up to 50 concurrent streamed 3D users
• The Blender SSR Creation Suite offers developers a rapid and low cost development platform for 3D content
• Mobile Emulation is included in Blender SSR Creation Suite
