Penn State
offers Digital Design 'VectorWorks' Classes
Architosh Press Release Report: Penn
State Offers Digital Design Classes Featuring VectorWorks.
University Park, Pennsylvania (November 7, 2000)÷Nemetschek North
America today announced that Pennsylvania State University, in conjunction
with the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), is offering,
for the first time, online CAD training in Landscape Architecture
through its World Campus Series. One of four online Landscape Architecture
classes, "Digital Two-Dimensions,Designing/Drawing/Drafting," will
feature VectorWorks, Nemetschek North America's flagship CAD product.
The program begins on November 10, 2000 and runs through May 10,
2001.
This course is intended to assist landscape architects in making
the transition from the traditional design studio to the digital
design studio. The professor, Madis Pihlak, ASLA, is an associate
professor of architecture and landscape architecture and founding
director of The Stuckeman Center. The course is offered through
the Department of Design Computing, School of Architecture and Landscape
Architecture at The Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Pihlak has
taught design computing at three different universities.
In this course, students will explore how to make relational spreadsheets
for planting plans or material schedules right within VectorWorks.
The course also deals with the graphic quality of the two-dimensional
image. Both Digital Workflow and Digital Craft will be discussed.
Participants will learn how to create beautiful two-dimensional
images that rival hand-drawn graphics and find out how to incorporate
an LCD graphics tablet that allows the user to draw on-screen. Additionally,
students will learn how VectorWorks fits into a digital world with
simple PowerPoint or more complex digital video presentations created
with iMovie and File Cut Pro as post-production tools. For more
information, visit http://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/search/
