Global design and BIM provider, Vectorworks, Inc. has announced a new corporate office in Australia. The move comes about through the acquisition of long-time CAD and Vectorworks distributor, OzCAD, and springboards off of recent news earlier this year of two new Asia distributors for Vectorworks in the APAC region covering Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, and Bangladesh.
Australia’s OzCAD
Distributing Vectorworks for over 20 years, the OzCAD office will become the home base for Vectorworks Australia, incorporating the dedicated team, strong sales, and technical support, and customer-service relationships. Vectorworks, Inc. will build on that foundation to better serve an expanding Australia-based customer base. In addition, the new Australia office will be the hub for serving customers in the Asia-Pacific region. Former OzCAD manager, Annabel Carr, will oversee operations in the Vectorworks Australia office.
“Advancing our existing presence in Australia by opening a new office will allow us to better serve our growing customer base in the Asia-Pacific and beyond,” said Vectorworks CEO Dr. Biplab Sarkar. “The OzCAD team has not only provided significant contributions to the development of this market over the past 20 years but also delivered top-quality support and service to Vectorworks customers. I look forward to our continued success and expansion in Australia with this experienced and passionate team.”
Global Expansion
Vectorworks, Inc. has its headquarters in Maryland, in the United States with key offices in Newbury, England, and Vancouver, Canada. These offices are supported by a network of over 35 distributors around the world, including significant distribution in Japan where Vectorworks contends for a leading market share in the very large Japanese CAD/BIM market. Vectorworks is available in 11 languages worldwide.

“We are thrilled to join the Vectorworks, Inc. team. Having worked closely with our U.S. colleagues for many years, we are honored to unite in delivering world-class software to Australian designers,” said Julian Carr, the former owner of OzCAD, now serving as Director of Australian Technical Operations. “In choosing to invest in Australia, Vectorworks, Inc. communicates a clear message about the strength of the Australian market, where Vectorworks serves a diverse spectrum of design industries. Empowered by the resources of the Vectorworks headquarters, we will continue to serve and grow our Australian customer base with local expertise, support, and customizations.”
The Vectorworks Australia office is located in Sydney, New South Wales. More information about Vectorworks can be found at vectorworks.net.
Architosh Analysis and Commentary
This news builds on recent APAC region distributor news for Vectorworks, building on new distributors in Tathastu Techno Solutions in Mumbai India, and Datalogics in India. So growth in APAC seems clearly on the roadmap for the US-based design and BIM software maker.
Vectorworks’s main offices and key largest distributors often reflect the market share of Apple’s Mac computer platform, as the company’s CAD software was originally one of a few key CAD applications sold exclusively on the Mac platform. Sidney, Australia, was referred to by Chris Idle, of Idle Architecture in Melbourne, Australia, as the New York City equivalent in Australia, a “creative capital” city with lots of design industries including film, broadcast, advertising, and related—all strong Mac-based industries. As a result, large concentrations of Mac users in creative industries tend to support large concentrations of architects on the Mac. A similar affair exists with Vancouver, Canada.
With large volumes of architects on Mac we tend to find strong Vectorworks bases of CAD users and not just in architecture but interiors and related fields. The decision to establish this office in Australia in Sydney may reflect Mac’s resurgence pressure in the locality. Apple itself has stated that the Mac computer platform has been on a “growth trajectory” since the launch of the Apple Silicon Macs. When long-term Windows folks leave the Microsoft platform for the Mac they often go searching for brand new software applications that feature highly and leverage the strengths of the platform. That journey history tends to work out well for Vectorworks.
