Maxon’s new Cinema 4D Release 24 (S24)—What’s New

Maxon, the developers of the award-winning professional 3D software Cinema 4D, have recently announced their latest big update, Release 24 (S24). The “S” in the paratheses stands for “subscription” and this particular update is available only for those Cinema 4D users under subscription licenses. Perpetual users will see these new features and future others later in the year.

The new update offers new functionality for 3D artists so they can more easily browse and obtain models, materials, and other assets so they can smartly and easily place them in their scene. Three placement tools offering new capabilities include Place, Scatter Pen, and Dynamic Place. The third tool is the most exciting but all three transform and improves workflows for the better.

The new Maxon Cinema 4D Release 24 (S24) is now out and includes new time-saving placement tools, among other new features, including a new Asset Manager and Scene Manager.

The release also includes key workflow enhancements and an early glimpse at continued progress on the Scene Nodes and Scene Manager interfaces to the new core. A big new feature that users will enjoy is the new Asset Manager. Assets can now be viewed without having to download them all. They are visible in the new interface for the Asset Manager and once the user selects what they wish to use the asset is downloaded from the Internet. Assets now have tags which makes them more findable through the new search tool inside the Asset Manager. You can now search by a term like “blue” and all materials, objects, et cetera matching that criteria for blue will appear, regardless of the type or class of that asset.

“S24 showcases what Maxon always strives to offer our subscribers—exceptional and innovative workflow matched with leading-edge core technology,” said Dave McGavran, Maxon CEO. “The new Asset Browser in combination with the Placement Tools provides a playful workflow that empowers creativity. And the advancements to the node-based system offers glimpses into the powerful and promising future of Cinema 4D.”

Architosh Analysis and Commentary

We applaud Maxon’s pricing structure for a subscription. A monthly option enables sporadic users who need to complex animations not possible in other software systems—particularly in the architecture sector—able to employ Cinema 4D for this type of work.

Again, for the AEC visualization market, this release offers yet more benefits for dedicated archviz pros. The new placement tools are particularly useful for this visualization segment.
