Tidbits: Vray 3.0 and TACTIC 4 news

Chaos Group releases V-Ray 3.0 for 3ds Max Beta

The beta for V-Ray version 3.0 for Autodesk 3ds Max is now out and available. Beta testers will have direct access to the Chaos Group team, which will help make this artist-driven package even more appealing to VFX, arch-viz, and industrial design users in the coming months.

Users will notice many improvements in using the version 3.0 with 3ds Max. Principal among these is speed. Raytracing calculations are running up to 5x faster. Also important is a brand new user interface (UI). Speed and simplicity is at the core of the V-Ray road map because the company says that is what users want. V-Ray 3.0 technology is headed to other leading programs including SketchUp for the Mac soon. We met with Chaos Group at AIA Denver and they showed us with great excitement the new version 3 progress.

V-Ray 3.0 Beta for 3ds Max is available today for users who already have V-Ray for 3ds Max licenses. There will be several new licensing options going forward. To learn more visit here.

TACTIC 4.0 News

Southpaw Technology’s new TACTIC open-source digital asset management system is now available through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace. Companies now producing large quantities of digital assets can now visit the AWS Marketplace, order TACTIC and start customizing and streamlining their digital workflows to suit their needs.

This change moves TACTIC to the cloud as a complimentary approach to browser and internal deployment options for TACTIC. Now users can quickly deploy the extensive and comprehensive asset management system as software as a service (SaaS). Earlier in the year we wrote about TACTIC’s announcement of being on OS X. You can read a lot more about TACTIC in that report.
