Earlier in the week Architosh published a news story on Peter Zumthor, the Swiss-based and Vectorworks using architect who has been named the 2009 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate, the most prestigious award given in the field of architecture–often referred to as the Nobel of Architecture.
Nemetschek North America published a press release on Zumthor indicating that the internationally renowned Swiss architect was a Vectorworks CAD user, the indication of which signals once again the popularity of this software by design-oriented architecture firms, and particularly celebrated and awarded architects.
Pritzker Architecture Laureate’s Practice Uses Macs
What was not mentioned in the press release, but has been confirmed now by Architosh through Nemetschek NA, is that Zumthor’s office uses Vectorworks on the Mac platform. According to Wikipedia, Zumthor maintains a small practice studio in the town of Haldenstein, Switzerland. Switzerland is one of the countries in Europe that has a high-concentration of Mac-based architecture firms, based on research information obtained by Architosh.

Of course it should be mentioned that one CAD developer’s knowledge of their software use within a company doesn’t provide it the knowledge to confirm the absence of other rival programs, including those that only run on Windows.
Regardless, Peter Zumthor is a celebrated architect who has achieved what is considered the Nobel of Architecture, and as such would rightly qualify for what Apple once called Apple Masters–those professionals and individuals who have distinguished themselves at the highest levels of achievement in society, “an international group of educators, artists, designers, writers, producers, architects, inventors, scientists, business leaders, humanitarians, musicians, athletes and others who think different.”
