Architosh Macworld Expo Report -1: Page 3

This Report: 3D modeling, graphics cards and FirstClass Intranet Server

FirstClass Intranet Server

FirstClass Intranet Server is a software product that brings big office technologies to the small to medium sized business at a fraction of the cost of other options...and cross-platform to boot!

The product runs on Macintosh or NT on the server side and any version of Windows or Macintosh on the client side. FirstClass IS gives your office the following Intranet functions (and more):

  • Office Email (Internet, intra-office, messaging) - Full Email Server
  • Office Calendars and Workgroup Functionality
  • Collaborative Workspaces - Accessible online via browser
  • Palm Sync
  • FTP Server
  • Web Server
  • RAD environment for database integration

The installation of this product will quickly get your entire office working on the Web, sending email to associates, clients, customers, etc. while allowing everyone to know what's going on in your organization, from anywhere in the world, at any time. Set up project workspaces and conferences where project team members can communicate, post documents and chat online from anywhere in the world, at any time. Bring teams together from diverse locations.

FirstClass IS runs on a dedicated Power Macintosh—an iMac is ideal. Or use an old Power Macintosh or an NT Server on a light machine. The program doesn't require lots of power, RAM or memory. Consideration should be given to the Macintosh's strength as a Web server platform (more secure, much less susceptible to viruses) and cost. The best way to deploy this server program is on a Mac, even if your office is predominantly Wintel.
