Lenovo Intros Powerful ThinkStation P360 Ultra

Lenovo has introduced a powerful new small-form-factor (SFF) desktop workstation computer in the new ThinkStation P360 Ultra.

The new computer rounds out its portfolio of professional workstations for industries demanding maximum computational power and graphics performance.

ThinkStation P360 Ultra

Only half the size of a traditional small-form-factor workstation, the new P360 Ultra is a form-factor revolution in the industry. Despite its tiny size, it features powerful NVIDIA RTX A5000 mobile graphics able to power CAD and BIM applications and virtual reality (VR) headsets.

The new Lenovo ThinkStation P360 Ultra breaks new barriers for ultra small-form-factor (SFF) computing.

The P360 Ultra also brings 12th generation Intel Core processors to the tiny workstation and the new computer outperforms the previous Lenovo small-form-factor (SFF) workstation by more than 50 percent.

Built for Remote Work

In the post-pandemic environment, remote work is driving a mandate for space-conscious design so that professionals can maximize the space in small home offices as well as redesigned and down-sized offices with hot-desk technology enabling shared spaces.

“We are revolutionizing the market with a new desktop workstation that is purpose-built to deliver impressive performance in a space-saving form factor that our customers need,” said Rob Herman, Vice President, Workstation and Client AI Business Unit, Lenovo. “The ThinkStation P360 Ultra is one of the most versatile workstations available given its ability to effortlessly tackle today’s most demanding workflows across industries, whether it’s being used by individual professionals or as an embedded technology within an OEM solution.”

An innovative internal design enables discreet NVIDIA RTX A5000 series graphics plus Gen 12 Intel Core processors.

To get to the smallest volume possible, Lenovo worked with NVIDIA to package their RTX A5000 technology so it could be cooled effectively and run at maximum performance levels. They also worked with Intel to design a double-sided motherboard and increased airflow.

Other technical details include:

There is also support for the latest WiFi standards and all of this is inside an 87mm x 223mm x 202mm package.

Architosh Analysis and Commentary

In today’s world, more folks are working from home where available areas to work and space can be quite tight. Other workers are doing even more remote work scenarios taking up part-time residence in vacation destinations that are highly affordable like Mexico. These scenarios require small space optimization.

The Lenovo P360 Ultra doesn’t compromise on performance despite its tiny volume. Lenovo has innovated hardware engineering to deliver an answer to Apple’s new Mac Studio machine but for the more prolific and software-supported Windows platform. SFF machines have been slowly capturing pro workstation notebook technologies and packaging them for SFF desktops. This new SFF workstation is Lenovo’s first to support discreet pro graphics. There is also support for ECC RAM (option) in this Alder Lake Intel-powered workstation, offering outstanding single-core processing industry leadership.

From an AEC industry perspective, the support for up to 128GB future-proofs this workstation for the remote home office worker in this industry. Most AEC apps are also frequency-bound meaning that single-core CPU performance matters most. And at such a low price point, the ThinkStation P360 Ultra offers a lot of power compared to rivals in a form factor that is peerless at the moment.
