AutoCAD 2019 for Mac and AutoCAD LT 2019—Announced and Shipping

Autodesk has announced this week its new 2019 versions of AutoCAD for the Apple macOS platform—a continuing surge of interest in the CAD community is not just met with new alternative products but by the world’s leading and most used CAD tool available with specialized features that take full advantage of Apple’s unique operating system features.

AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT 2019 for Mac—What’s New

German and Japanese Langauge Support

With over 100 million Mac computers now in operation worldwide (according to a recent Apple keynote) it only makes sense that AutoCAD for Mac is now native in other languages beyond English and French. This release introduces AutoCAD for Mac for the German-language markets (DACH countries) and Japan. Upon installing the app, simply select your preferred language from the Application Preferences dialog and restart AutoCAD for Mac.

New DWG Compare Feature

The new DWG Compare feature in AutoCAD 2019 for Mac and AutoCAD LT 2019 for Mac helps users easily identify graphical differences between two revisions of the same drawing or Xref.

01 – The new DWG Compare feature allows the user to graphically compare to versions of the same drawing, color-coding one version from the other helps highlight changes.

This will help users see critical differences, identify clashes, and review constructability and more. Turning on revision clouds will further highlight the changes and you can cycle through each change to make sure every new change is accounted for.

Purge Multiple Objects

It is now possible to purge multiple objects at once. Autodesk has added a new user interface for the Purge command, so it is easy to purge multiple types of objects at the same time. By default, all named items are selected for purging.

“The latest Purge enhancements are simple and easy to use. There’s no reason why anyone should not incorporate this into their workflow,” said Luis Torres-Rojas, Design Technology Manager at E2.

Efficiency Plot with New Plot Preview

Autodesk has also made new improvements to the Plot Preview dialog. The more frequently used options are now at the top for easy access. With the new layout view, you can see how your layout will appear post-plot and change settings to make the changes in real time.

“The new Plot dialog makes plotting more efficient and is extremely intuitive and easy to use,” said user James York, System Architect at Yorktel.

Create Views While Designing—NEWVIEW Command

With a new Views and Viewport feature, users can create views while designing, then quickly insert any of the saved views in a layout in paper space. The NEWVIEW command creates a named view from what’s displayed in the current viewport, or from a rectangular window you define.

The new View Gallery allows the user to insert a named view from the toolbar. This is a faster way to create a view in paper space and save the user time from having to adjust the view by zooming in and out.

Define Default Layer for Xrefs

A new XREFLAYER system variable lets you specify a default layer on which new Xrefs are inserted, saving the user from having to change the Xref’s layer after every insert. To make it easy to see which Xref layers have overrides, a new Xref Overrides layer filter is automatically created as soon as overrides are applied.

0X – The new Xref Overrides Layer features shown here in the new AutoCAD 2019 for Mac and AutoCAD LT 2019 for Mac.

When you rename or delete an Xref layer in the Xref drawing, it is automatically renamed/deleted when you reload it in the host drawing.
