Vectorworks, Inc., has finalized their agenda for their upcoming Design Summit user conference running from 18 – 20 September 2017. Architect and firm founder, Brad Cloepfil, of Allied Works Architecture, will headline the design keynote while Vectorworks, CEO, Dr. Biplab Sarkar, will deliver the introductory keynote session where he is expected to showcase the latest technologies the company has developed and possibly upcoming technologies under development.
Allied Works Architecture
The Vectorworks Design Summit event has featured noted architects, landscape architects and industry influential leaders and educators in years past. This year is no different, as Cloepfil’s award-winning practice is noted for its arts and cultural projects. The firm has been using Vectorworks software on some of their most prestigious projects, including the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, City; the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver, Colorado; the National Veterans Memorial & Museum in Columbus, Ohio; and the National Music Centre of Canada, in Calgary.

Architect, educator and principal of Allied Works Architecture, Cloepfil creates culturally resonant architectural designs, forged by the defining elements of their mission and site. Cloepfil’s earliest influences lay outside of architecture — ranging from the vast landscapes and monumental works of civil engineering in the Pacific Northwest to the simple, yet profound gestures of land and installation artists. His approach to design combines an intensive focus on the specific character of each project with an understanding of architecture’s transformative possibilities.
Aiming to Inspire
“I hope attendees leave my keynote feeling inspired to explore the craft of making, whether they’re designing anything from buildings, landscapes or stage designs to plates, tables or perfume bottles,” said Cloepfil. “Although, this passion for making would be nothing without the means to do the job — tools like Vectorworks software that allow designers to explore and document innovative projects.”
Other inspiration at the upcoming Vectorworks Design Summit in September will come from Dr. Biplab Sarkar’s keynote talk which should excite participants with technology reveals that only attendees are able to see. For participants, we understand from our discussions with Design Summit attendees that the tech reveals are helpful for “technology road mapping,” knowing if the company will deliver certain technologies within Vectorworks or through partnerships or if a firm needs to find solutions by other vendors. A good example is the domain of virtual reality, where Vectorworks, Inc., has revealed their VR plans at Design Summits in the past and this is an area where there are multiple competing solutions in the market.
Registering and Final Details
Brad Cloepfil’s keynote will certainly inspire architecturally. One can hope he shows a lot of drawings and models as part of Allied Works’ process.
The 2017 Vectorworks Design Summit takes place in Baltimore at the Marriot Waterfront Hotel, in Maryland. This is a nice venue, and this author has stayed at this location before. The Waterfront area is like a public park along the harbor with restaurants, street performers, nearby museums, and family-friendly excursions.
This year’s event is more training-centric than lecture seminar centric, according to sources Architosh has spoken to.
