Two days ago Abvent uploaded its fourth teaser video, titled “Think Simply,” showcasing the new support for Mac in the upcoming—and important—Twinmotion 2018.
Far More Than Mac Support
While Mac support is very special, particularly for readers here at Architosh, the truly big news about Twinmotion 2018 is that Abvent has selected to integrate the Unreal game engine as its real-time rendering and physics engine. And Twinmotion 2018 is all about “real time” interactive rendering, there are no rendering features that are not included in non-real-time capacities.
Back to the Mac support….
And yes, this is quite exciting for fans of the Mac in CAD and 3D. Twinmotion 2018 will mark the first time one of the leading interactive renderers (and there are only a few in this league) offers up native support for macOS.
In a live webinar this morning in Europe, Abvent communicated that it is because of the Unreal Game Engine that many of the new features are possible in Twinmotion 2018. This would include the support for Apple’s macOS platform as well as numerous benefits in this version, including numerous virtual reality (VR) features. As you can see in the teaser video that showcases the support for Mac, Twinmotion 2018 will allow users to push interactive experiences out to VR content that runs on a smartphone. With the upcoming new VR and AR tools coming in the next macOS release, announced and coming this fall, things will get even better for Twinmotion 2018 by year’s end, specifically with respect to Apple’s devices and platforms.
Twinmotion 2018 supports import of just about any CAD or 3D modeler’s files but both ARCHICAD and Revit get the special bonus of real-time synchronization with Twinmotion 2018. This means that you can drive changes to the model back in those BIM applications and see them update in Twinmotion pretty much instantly.
It isn’t clear yet if any plans have been made to support other BIM or CAD tools with such real-time synchronization. If the plans are in the pipe Abvent isn’t talking about them today.
It’s About The Videos
Abvent has not yet released an official press release and is instead teasing out features in the next Twinmotion (2018) update. Readers will have to wait for more technical details about all the benefits of Twinmotion 2018.
There is another Twinmotion webinar planned for later today (5:00 pm Paris time or 11:00 am EDT). This is the final chance to see the new Twinmotion 2018 in the webinar so click here to signup.
