This week the Open Design Alliance (ODA) has announced the availability of Teigha BIM, the world’s first stand-alone SDK for working with Autodesk® Revit® files.

What is Teigha BIM Is

Teigha BIM is an API (application programming interface) software development kit for independent software companies to license and utilize enabling their CAD and BIM applications to import native Autodesk Revit file types, including .rfa and .rvt. Like their other interoperability API products, Teigha BIM provides the industry’s various software makers with a means to have their software interoperate with market dominant file formats. The Revit BIM application has established that type of position.

Teigha BIM is a powerful API and runs on any desktop or server platform, and it also integrates with Teigha Cloud, ODA’s web-based visualization, and editing technology.

“I am very pleased to announce the first release of Teigha BIM,” commented Neil Peterson, ODA President. “This initial release provides production ready access to the full contents of version 2011+ files. Rendering support is currently in beta. Write is in an early stage, and is improving rapidly.”

“Teigha BIM is currently available to top-tier subscribers only, but starting in January 2017 we will have two new licensing options aimed at a larger audience.”

Sergey Vishnevetskey, Development Director of ODA, said, “The development of Teigha BIM has been greatly facilitated by leveraging our Kernel, which provides visualization, geometry, cloud, and runtime services. These services greatly simplify the work of supporting a major new file format.”

Teigha BIM is developed as part of the Special Interest Group within the ODA, and is available to ODA members for an additional annual licensing fee. A free trial version can be downloaded from the ODA website.
