Vectorworks, Inc., Announces Graphical Scripting Webinar Series for Marionette

Global CAD/BIM developer Vectorworks, Inc., is announced an upcoming webinar series on Marionette, its visual, algorithmic modeling and design technology (sometimes referred to as “graphics scripting”). The series is designed to get architects, engineers, landscape architects and other designers using Vectorworks introduced to the power of this new technology.

Marionette for Newbies

Dubbed Marionette Monday, the free webinar series will delve into both the technical and aesthetic design possibilities made available using the Python-based graphical scripting tool. Marionette enables designers with little or no computer programming experience how to create custom application algorithms that build interactive objects, streamline complex workflows, and explore the power of 2D drawing, 3D modeling and BIM workflows all within Vectorworks.

What makes Marionette unique in the market is that it is not just the first and only (at the moment) cross-platform graphical scripting tool available, it is also the only one built directly inside a BIM-authoring software.

“Graphical scripting allows today’s creatives to leverage the full potential of computational design, resulting in more efficient workflows and better performing products,” said webinar host and Vectorworks Architectural BIM Specialist Sarah Barrett. “Marionette brings these abilities to Vectorworks, empowering users to explore the world of scripting and algorithms without the burden of traditional text-based languages. Everything from simple filters for isolating objects with certain attributes to entire buildings driven by parametric inputs can now be constructed without leaving the Vectorworks workspace.”

The one-hour webinars guide registrants from beginner to advanced Marionette user, all while offering workflow techniques and examples of how to integrate this graphical scripting tool into their daily workflows. Participants will also receive personalized feedback and support to answer questions and perfect their projects.

Dates and Times

All webinars will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET on the following dates:

Interested participants who are unable to attend any of the Marionette trainings should still register to receive the recorded webinar.

“Graphical scripting can be very intimidating to non-scripters, but these webinars will shine some light on the ‘mysteries’ of scripting using a powerful, dynamic tool: Marionette,” said Barrett. “Once you learn the basics, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll be creating complex, parametric objects.”

Participants can share their questions, comments and excitement about the webinar, as well as pictures of their scripting endeavors and successes with #MarionetteMonday on social media.
