EIAS3D has announced this week that they have just released version 9.1 of Electric Image Animation System (EIAS v9.1). The new version of one of the world’s fastest animation and rendering systems is now available for immediate download.
What’s New in 9.1
Version 9.1 is a free update for version 9 users and is a new step in making EIAS faster, more robust and easier to use. The company says that long-term customers will experience a remarkable performance improvement in their existing projects. New customers will find that EIAS 9.1 is a powerful and easy-to-learn system.
New in Animator v9.1
- Preview engine now rewritten for GPU bound OpenGL
- OpenGL preview is significantly faster (typically by several times)
- Preview is drawn with anti-aliasing
- Elimination of the obsolete “software” CPU bound preview mode
- New FACT file re-import is now “validated FACT” export, can automatically export existing geometry, validate it and re-import it
- Updated Bullet Engine — new version uses Bullet 2.81 engine
New in Renderama v9.1
- Eliminated several 2 GB file barriers
- Renderama can stitch files larger than 2 GB
- Files larger than 2 GB can be sent to render slaves
- Camera can now create QuickTime movies larger than 2 GB
- Windows Platform: Camera can render QuickTime images at resolutions greater than 4096 x 4096 pixels
In addition to these updates version 9.1 includes dozens of bug fixes. EIAS 9.1 ships for both Mac Universal Binary (Intel Macs) and for Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit versions) for 895.USD with upgrades starting at 395.USD.
Electric Image Animation Systems is a stalwart in the 3D industry with numerous accolades and awards honors to its name. The new owners are re-invigorating the veteran DCC tool with extensive and long-ranged strategic investments that fuel the needs of both existing long-term EIAS customers while offering competitive features within the market. EIAS uniquely offers an infinite number of render nodes with each EIAS license.
Architosh Analysis
The new owners of EIAS mean business and are pushing forward with the veteran DCC tool package in multiple directions. The update to OpenGL preview viewport is a very much needed update and puts that aspect of the system on par with the general competition.
Some of the directions the company intends to take EIAS can be gleamed from our feature on the system and company in a recent feature report. (see, Architosh, “Exclusive Interview: The Re-emergence of Electric Image Animation System,” 4 Feb 2013). In that feature we learned that the company plans for a modernized UI once they select new cross-platform development frameworks and that they are focused on delivering a lot of workflow improvements and huge performance optimizations. This update v9.1 delivers on that last promise.
EIAS has its own rendering engine in Camera which from its beginning has always been regarded as very fast. We do not know for sure these days how it stacks up against the competition. It does utilize a new GI engine but whose engine that is is not known to us.
