Nemetschek North America News: Economy, Light Plot, etc.

The latest e-dispatch by Nemetschek North America has some interesting and positive news. First off, the company’s CEO, Sean Flaherty, notes the importance of capital and credit for the construction market and sees evidence of it flowing again, albeit, more slowly than before the downturn. An important point Mr. Flaherty brings up is the commitment governments (like the US) are making to investments in energy-efficient building. And when every dollar counts in construction it means that projects are more intensively designed. This lays the groundwork for a revitalized AEC design/engineering industry that needs to stay abreast of the latest technologies.

One last note. Mentioning that Nemetschek NA will be at the annual AIA show later this month, Mr. Flaherty predicts that the key buzzword at the show will be “efficiency.”

Vectorworks and Design Students

Nemetschek North America sponsored PLANET’s Student Reception in Ponoma, California where Nemetschekians Eric Gilbey and Howard Donan managed one of the most popular games at the student reception–the Vectorworks Velcro Wall. Students in a slip-on Velcro suit would run, jump and toss themselves onto the wall as high as they could, to compete and win prizes.

The company also hosted a “tweet-up” at the US Institute for Theater Technicians (USITT) annual conference. The upbeat gathering for students to connect with their peers and a network of experienced professionals was a deemed a success. You can see pics from the event here.
