Graphisoft has an upcoming webinar cutely titled “Archicad and Mac: Meet the Ultimate Power Couple.”
Featuring Archicad veteran and BIM expert architect Jared Banks, AIA, the webinar will showcase how fast Archicad 27 is on Apple’s latest M3 chip-based Mac computers.
Performance Power
The Apple M3 chip is the computer industry’s very first 3-nanometer chip and currently leads the entire computer industry in Geekbench 6 performance for single-threaded processing (Geekbench 6 score = 3131).
But the real story behind Apple Silicon is the power per watt. The ARM-architecture-based M-series chips for Apple’s fleet of Mac computers use dramatically less energy than Intel X86 architecture chips and thus are ideal for long days on the job site with a laptop computer.
Powering Archicad 27
They are also incredibly ideal for running Archicad 27. How fast? 2.5x to 3x on tasks like file opening, section generation and display, layout update and display, and rendering with Redshift and Cineware engines.
For those experienced in running the popular BIM platform, the most impressive performance lift may be the File Opening score, which is up to 150 percent faster than the latest (fastest) Intel Mac.
Section updates are also time-consuming in BIM software, the more so the larger the project file. A section update on a stadium project with nearly ten thousand 3D elements can take three minutes on an Intel machine but just over one minute on an M3 Max-based Macbook Pro.
