Available now in beta format, Matterport’s revolutionary 3D camera, Pro3, can now do high-density 3D scanning. This means the camera—popular in the AEC industry on job sites and elsewhere—can capture 5 million real depth points per scan in two minutes.
Standard scanning captures less than 1/5 that many real depth points but it does so in just 20 seconds. Medium density captures 1.5 million real depth points in about 45 seconds.
High-Density Scanning
“As-built” models visualize the existing conditions or current state of a building, documenting key components like ducts and pipes. As-builts, most often rendered in the form of a point cloud file, are foundational to creating Building Information Models (BIM) used in Facilities Management, Design, and Construction.
This latest update to the Matterport Pro3 camera helps the company maintain its lead in the ever-competitive photographic high-fidelity digital twin reconstruction market. The camera helps create seamless everywhere the camera sees photo-realistic 3D digital twins.
Such scans are immensely useful to design and engineering teams, the building team, and building clients. The new high-density scanning is a six-fold increase in precision, and once scanned, the data can be moved from Matterport’s cloud system to common BIM tools like Autodesk Revit via the E57 file standard.
