Architosh is back at AIA National Convention after returning last year after a pause during the Covid pandemic. It’s nice to be back in California and this particular city so close to Silicon Valley and exciting digital innovations.
AIA BEST of SHOW
Architosh will be inside the Digital Software Pavilion at AIA today and tomorrow learning about (and seeing architects react to) the exciting digital technologies on display. As in years past, we will be giving nods to the best technologies in several categories as part of our annual Architosh AIA BEST of SHOW awards.
We are particularly excited to see what companies are possibly tapping AI (artificial intelligence) or machine learning technologies to bring about solutions to common pain points. We are also highly interested in new solutions that signify the era of BIM 2.0.
One of those companies that meets that BIM 2.0 era definition is Indian and US-based Snaptrude. And speaking about a BIM 2.0. What is that? How does one define a 2.0 era for BIM (Building Information Modeling)?
BIM 2.0
If we look at the market, we might note how Autodesk told its audience at AU last year that they were going to disrupt itself. That is much better than being disrupted by a competitor. So Autodesk Forma and its sister cloud solutions across the M&E and D&M (Design and Manufacturing) industries have certain characteristics that are not present in legacy solutions. BIM 1.0 was born during the desktop computing era. So was CAD 1.0.
The characteristics of Autodesk Forma versus the characteristics of Autodesk Revit—from a technical foundation perspective and from how that foundation changes the nature of how tools and data are made available (democratized)—set up a possible framework for defining BIM 2.0. But Autodesk is hardly the only company helping to define BIM 2.0. We have covered this topic multiple times in our free monthly newsletter (Xpresso).
Anyway, we look forward to bringing a lot of reports on what we see at AIA 2023 SF. Stay tuned!
