Amazon EC G4ad instances are cloud-based computing resources for professional applications like CAD and engineering software, where companies may want to leverage cloud-based high-performance computing resources on a metered pay model rather than rely on in-house or multi-deployed high-end workstation computers.
Access to cloud-based high-performance computing resources has grown since the global pandemic where companies need to serve more dispersed workforces engaged from home offices, job sites, factory or assembly floors, et cetera.
AutoCAD on EC2
Amazon EC2 G4ad instances enable cloud-based support for graphics-intensive workloads. AMD’s Radeon PRO V520 GPUs are currently only available in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) G4ad instances. It means organizations can improve operations by adding flexible and convenient access to AutoCAD running in the cloud on high-performance cloud servers with AMD Radeon PRO GPU hardware powering the CAD workflow.
Such deployments are useful for workforces who do many things besides access, edit, and manipulate AutoCAD files. It means these workforces can gain access to high-performance AutoCAD workflows from virtually anywhere at a lower cost than high-end workstations.
Technical Explanations
The G4ad instances are powered by 2nd Generation AMD EPYC™ CPUs and AMD Radeon Pro V520 GPUs built on the latest 7nm Zen 2 and AMD RDNA™ architectures—all of this delivering workstation-class experiences from the cloud.
Autodesk’s certification means AutoCAD has been rigorously tested to deliver the same reliable AutoCAD experience from the cloud as if from a native workstation or computer in-house.
Firms can provision up to four AMD Radeon PRO V520 GPUs per G4ad instance. Users can thus drive up to two dual 4K displays at 60Hz from the cloud. Or, that same Radeon power can be used to drive a massive desktop—how about one 4K display plus three additional 1080p monitors. AMD Radeon PRO V520 GPUs support DirectX 11 and 12, OpenGL 4.6, Vulkan 1.1, and OpenCL 2.0.
